BCS Early Careers Networking Party

WHAT A COMMUNITY - Teamwork makes the dream work!

On the 12th of September, we held our very first Early Careers Networking Party. Our work in Early Careers is very important, so thank you to all the delegates who attended to make it a very inspiring, engaging, lively, and pleasant evening. We hope you enjoyed it. Special thanks to our guest speakers Alina Timofeeva and Jamie Kavanagh – the feedback we received was amazing and both speakers kept the group engaged with inspirational and valuable advice to help them in their careers. Thanks to all the BCS team for supporting us to run this event. We’re already looking forward to many more coming up soon!

As an Executive, rather than tell you what happened on the night, we thought it would be nice for you to hear directly from our community.

“Just wanted to say thanks so much for organising an amazing event - made some great connections and was super insightful/motivational!”

“It was lovely meeting you at the BCS event and a massive thank you to all the team for such a great event. Genuinely, enjoyed the well selected panellists as there were so many gems. Thank you for encouraging us to get involved with our communities to support everyone from all walks of life. I look forward to getting involved with volunteering as you suggested so please feel free to message about how to get involved”.

“Networking is underrated. The Early Careers networking event at BCS last night gave me such a boost! And I really needed it! An important strategy when looking for a junior dev position is networking. Searching for a junior developer role can be challenging, so connecting with people who are going through the same thing—or have been there before—is incredibly powerful. It reminds you that you're not alone. I'm very grateful for the panellists, their inspiring talks and the lovely people I met who shared their stories”.

As a young graduate or apprentice coming into the workplace, not only is it daunting having to study, but the very possibility of not being able to find a job in a career that you have chosen, is disheartening. For this reason, as well as for retention, it’s why our work in Early Careers is important. We are also here to help career changers and with the many changes happening in industry, it’s even more vital to ensure we have a talent pipeline that’s being supported to cope with those changes and sometimes, challenges. If you would like to support our work in Early Careers, please do reach out to either Timothy Clark or myself and we’d be happy to help!
